About our Jazz Society

 

A non-profit organization (tax # 56-2032667) formed in the spring of 1997 to promote and preserve America’s only true art form called Jazz, as well as educating the public in the many styles of Jazz.

Jazz, born in America-celebrated world wide!

Projects:

   Annual free open air concerts featuring local jazz musicians.

Annual indoor concerts bringing internationally known jazz musicians to the Cape Fear

Partnership with UNCW for annual benefit concerts for Public Radio Station WHQR Over $20,000 has been raised in three years for the station.

Partnership with UNCW Dept. of Music to found and sustain scholarships for talented

student musicians who are pursuing an education in jazz music. We have given financial aid to seven qualifying students  

Partnership with the Chamber Music Society of Wilmington & the Black Arts Alliance       bringing to Wilmington a production of Langston Hughes’ “Soul Gone Home”, set to music by composer William Banfield and performed by a jazz singer, chamber music  ensemble and African/American drummers & dancers.

  Our Partner/ Airlie Gardens, Hosts First Friday Family Jazz concerts at this historic spot, helping to increase their membership from 100 to over 2,000 in three years.  

Our Partner/ Cape Fear Museum,  Hosting First Friday concerts inside the museum in the Winter months bringing new people and members into the museum. 

Free monthly programs open to the public which are geared to educate and entertain in the various forms and styles of Jazz. Two dinner programs held annually.
